The magician shows two cards and tells the spectator that he will use them later.
The spectator chooses a card and puts it back into the deck.
The magician takes a deck and dribbles it on the table. While doing so, he catches the chosen card in between other two cards.
So you guessed it, this is a visual variation of the legendary sandwich effect.
