Inspired by Richard Sander’s “Ring on Shoelace,” there has been a resurgence of Ring on Shoelace effects lately. At FISM, we saw the best version we have ever seen: “NoRisk” by Chris Torrente.

Here’s the effect: you borrow a ring, make it vanish, and then instantly show that it is tied to your shoelace. It’s done without silks, covers, or unnecessary moves; you vanish it in your hand, and then somehow it’s already on your shoelace. Part of its deceptiveness is that it happens so quickly. Impossibly quick.

NoRisk is a new method that is simple, fast, and instantly resettable. This makes it perfect for strolling, close-up, or parlour performances. You can set it up in almost any pair of pants and be ready to go in just a few minutes. As the name suggests, there is no risk to the borrowed ring, because, unlike other versions, the ring is kept securely under the performer’s control the whole time.
